Big First Half Run Leads Lady Tigers Past Bethany

It took the Fort Hays State women’s basketball team a little while to get going, but when they did they took control, defeating Bethany College 82-37 Tuesday night at Gross Coliseum. The victory improves FHSU to 2-0 and drops the Swedes to 1-5.

After FHSU scored the first five points of the game, they would go scoreless for nearly five minutes allowing Bethany to tie the game. Leading by just one, FHSU went on a 21-4 run to go up 18 and would lead by 20 at the half, 33-13.

Fort Hays State used a 23-2 second half run to put the game away and led by as 50 late in the game.

Kate Lehman led three Lady Tigers in double-figures with 16 points, Kate Lehman added 14 and Kai Brown 10. Keriann Shaw led FHSU on the glass with eight rebounds.

The Tigers shot 45-percent for the game despite going just 4-for-17 from 3-point range. FHSU hit 17-of-22 free throws and outrebounded the smaller Swedes 45-30 and grabbed 21 offensive boards.
