The quest for a dog park in Hays has been pursued by a core group of residents for about 18 months.
In September a six-acre site at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex was approved by the Hays City Commission. The “Friends of the Hays Dog Park” have two years to raise the $127,000 needed for the project.
The capital fundraising campaign kicks off Friday with a huge two-day garage sale at the Hays Mall in the former Fashion Bug location.
Friends president Kim Perez says shoppers will find “a little bit of everything” at the garage sale, from furniture to dog toys.
Supporters will also able to make a $100 donation for a personalized, engraved brick to be placed on the park’s walkways.
