FHSU’s Koehn MIAA Wrestler of the Week

Fort Hays State Derek Koehn has been named the MIAA’s Wrestler of the Week after going 3-1 for the week and was the champion of the Newman Invitational at 157 pounds on Sunday.

After a first round bye, Koehn won three straight matches to take his respective weight class. He opened with a 7-2 victory over Trent Robb of Neosho County Community College. Next he defeated Cory Dauphin of Central Oklahoma, the #7 ranked wrestler nationally at 157 pounds by a tight 3-2 margin. This avenged a 2-0 loss to Dauphin just two nights earlier in dual action with UCO. Koehn then knocked off the #3 ranked wrestler at 157 pounds in Ouachita Baptist’s Bobby Williams by a 2-1 margin to win his class. He is now 17-3 overall on the season.

The 157 pound junior is a native of Pittsburg, Kan. where he competed at Pittsburg High School.
