Quick Start Lifts Lady Tigers Past Aggies

The No. 11 Fort Hays State Lady Tigers raced out to an 11-0 lead in the first 3 1/2 minutes and never looked back in a 87-54 win over Oklahoma-Panhandle State Saturday night in Goodwell, Oklahoma. The win moves the Lady Tigers to 9-0 for the first time in school history. The Aggies drop to 3-6.

Fort Hays State led the game from wire-to-wire, never leading  by less than seven in the first half and were up 42-22 at the half. The Aggies got as close at 17 in the second half but FHSU answered with a 17-4 run to push the lead to 30 and would lead by as many as 35 in the second half.

FHSU dominated the glass, outrebounding OPSU 59-36 and outscored them on second chance points 33-3. The Lady Tigers also outscored the Aggies 20-8 off of turnovers.

Kate Edwards and Kate Lehman both turned in double-doubles, Edwards scoring 18 and grabbing 12 rebounds, Lehman 16 points and 13 boards. Tera Ingalbe and Kelsey Sorenson both came off the bench to score nine.

Hutch Man Arrested For Attempting To Meet 15-Year-Old Girl For Sex

A 20-year-old Hutchinson man was arrested around 11 am Friday morning when he showed up at a local apartment thinking he was going to meet a 15-year-old girl for a sexual relationship. Instead, Justin Richardson was greeted by police.

Hutchinson Police Detective Scott Carlton says he had been communicating with the man through Facebook since December 12 and decided to set up a sting. Allegedly, the man wanted sexual relations with what he thought was the teenage girl and even walked a mile and half because he had no transportation.

Potential charges include electronic solicitation and attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Bond in the case set at $30,000.

Feds Charge Kansas Feedlot Worker For Alleged Thefts

A central Kansas woman faces federal charges of stealing more than $211,000 from a Lyons livestock feeder to pay off losses from her own cattle business.

The U.S. attorney’s office on Friday charged 37-year-old Carrie L. Frederick of Sterling with three counts of wire fraud.

The government says Frederick owed Golden Belt Feeders near St. John more than $150,000. The debt stems from losses in cattle transactions she financed while serving on Golden Belt’s board.

Prosecutors allege that after Frederick began working in 2007 at Sellers Farms’ feeding operation in Lyons, she sent fraudulent faxes to banks for money transfers to cover personal expenses and repay her former employer.

Frederick’s lawyer did not return a call Friday. A phone number for her could not be found.

Frederick was summoned to appear in court Jan. 4.

Monarchs Fall Twice to Ellinwood

GIRLS:  Ellinwood 74       TMP  64

Heather Ruder poured in a career high 30 points but it wasn’t enough as the TMP Lady Monarchs fell to 0-5 on the season.  A Ruder 3 to start the 4th Quarter put TMP up 59-58 but it would be the last time the Lady Monarchs would be in front.  They will travel to Victoria on Tuesday.

BOYS:   Ellinwood 61   TMP  54

TMP fell down by 12 midway through the 2nd Quarter Friday night and it looked like a blowout was on hand.  The Monarchs scratched back to within 6 at halftime and led 43-41 going into the 4th Quarter.  That would be the end of the celebration for TMP as the Eagles had to much down the stretch to get the win.  TMP is now 1-4 and will play at Victoria on Tuesday.

KHAZ Country Music News: Alan Jackson’s Family Enjoys Traditional Christmas Celebrations

Alan Jackson and wife Denise‘s three daughters are growing up fast, but they still make a point to celebrate Christmas in a big way each year.

He says, “Always try to remember Jesus’ birthday, and just the whole thing and just have a wonderful big meal, almost like Thanksgiving four weeks later.  We have the same, pretty much, turkey, dressing, all the same kind of things.”

The family goes down to see their relatives in Georgia in mid-December, but Alan spends Christmas Day with his immediate family.  Of course, music is a big part of setting the mood for opening presents that morning.

“I try to keep Christmas music going in the background,” Alan says.  “I like to turn that on before I let them come down to the tree and everything.”

KHAZ Country Music News: Eric Church Taking Time Off the Road in 2013 to “See What’s Happening Creatively”

Eric Church has played roughly 250 shows a year for the past six years, so he’s looking forward to taking some time off the road in 2013.  He’ll be busy writing and recording the follow up to his platinum-selling album Chief, but Eric isn’t sure he’ll release a new project in the year either.

He tells the Charleston City Paper, “I kind of want to see what’s happening creatively.  I want to get away from the road and away from all the stuff that’s happening, check back in and see what’s happening from a songwriting standpoint.”

Eric’s fans will have a few chances to see him in 2013 with a few solo dates scheduled for February.  He’s also opening the stadium shows on Kenny Chesney‘s No Shoes Nation tour starting in March.

KHAZ Country Music News: Darius Rucker Delivering $10,000 Worth of Toys to Hurricane-Ravaged New York Town

Darius Rucker is doing his part to make sure the kids in storm-ravaged Lindenhurst, NY have a merry Christmas. The city was the winner in Darius’s Demand It contest through Eventful to receive $10,000 worth of toys for children in need. Lindenhurst was badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy, so Darius is looking forward to spreading holiday cheer there with the toy drop on Monday.

“To see all these fans come together and ‘Demand’ their votes be counted in an area devastated by Hurricane Sandy is just incredible,” Darius said in a statement.  “It never ceases to amaze me how caring country music fans are in helping others, and together we’ll be making the holidays happier for families who really need the help.”

Darius will visit a Toys “R” Us store near Lindenhurst on Monday morning to purchase the toys and then help several U.S. Marines load the Toys for Tots truck in the parking lot.  Toys for Tots will then distribute the toys to local agencies to get them in the hands of area children.

KHAZ Country Music News: Kip Moore’s Success May Be His Family’s Best-Kept Secret

When someone has the kind of breakout success Kip Moore has enjoyed this year, you’d just assume his family is following things every step of the way. That’s not quite how it works with Kip, though. In fact, his family is coming to see him play in an arena for the first time Friday night in Jacksonville, FL opening for Eric Church.

The last time Kip’s family saw him play, his breakthrough hit, “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck,” had just hit the top 20 on the country charts.  It would eventually go to #1.

Says Kip, “They saw me play at a little bar in Atlanta, called the Peachtree Tavern.  So, they haven’t seen it, with what it’s kind of become.”

Kip hasn’t exactly told his family about his success either, so they were surprised when they started hearing him all over the radio and seeing him on television.

“I never talked about it really,” says Kip.  “I’m kind of that way anyway.  I’m kind of just private and quiet about what I’m doing.  I always felt like if it ended up being good enough and working then they’d find out anyway.”

Kip closes out his time on Eric Church’s Blood, Sweat & Beers tour this weekend with a final show Saturday night in Sunrise, FL.
