The Victoria Knights played host to the Otis-Bison Cougars in a Central Prairie League matchup on Friday night that saw the Knights come away with a sweep of both the girls and boys games.
In the girls game Otis-Bison opened the scoring with a pair of free throws from Demi Bartonek but Victoria answered with a 13-2 too go up 11. The lady Knights hit four of six threes in the first quarter. Both Kristin Huser and Brooke Schmidt hit two threes in the first.
Victoria opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run and led 30-13 at halftime. Huser scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half.
Otis-Bison came out of the halftime break on an 8-0 run and pulled with 10 late in the third quarter 34-24. The Cougars got as close as eight in the forth quarter before falling 42-29.
Victoria’s Kristin Huser led all scorers with 20 points and Otis-Bison Hannah Bannister had a team-high 11.
The Lady Knights are 4-2 on the season and have won five straight over Otis-Bison while the Cougars drop to 2-6.
The boys game didn’t feature a lot of offense but both teams got after it on the defense end.
Otis-Bison jumped out to a 10-7 first quarter lead behind six from Kole Urban. The Knights struggled to score early on opening the game shooting just 2-of-15 and trailed by six, at 15-9, to begin the second quarter. But the Knights turned up the defensive pressure and went on a 12-2 run to take a 23-16 lead late in the first half.
The Cougars tied the game three times in the third quarter but couldn’t get over the hump in the second half and Victoria used a 8-2 run to pull away for a 41-33 win.
The Knights had a balanced attack again tonight with 9 players scoring led by Sam Ottley’s eight points. Otis-Bison’s Dylan Wissman led all scorers with 17.
The win for Victoria snapped a four-game losing streak to the Cougars and they are 5-1 on the season. Otis-Bison is now 3-5.
Victoria hosts Stockton on Tuesday night and Otis-Bison travels to La Crosse next Friday.
