Ben Congiusta hit a 3-pointer with 0:03 to force overtime as the Fort Hays State Tigers rallied from a 10-point deficit with 3:30 to play and defeat Emporia State 79-76 in overtime Saturday afternoon at White Auditorium in Emporia. The victory improves the Tigers to 9-3 and 3-1 in the MIAA while the Hornets fall to 5-6 and 0-3 in the conference.
The Tigers trailed by 11 in the first half before pulling within three at the half. They grabbed a couple of one-point leads early in the second half, but the Hornets answered with an 8-0 to to up seven and eventually pushed the lead back to double-figure before the Tigers comeback.
Dwayne Brunson led FHSU with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Congiusta and Lance Russell both added 16 and Craig Nicholson scored 15 while dishing out nine assists.
