SOCIETY OF FRIENDS OF HISTORIC FORT HAYS TO HOLD ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Society of Friends of Historic Fort Hays will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2013 in the Historic Fort Hays visitor’s center.
The meeting will begin with a program by Debra Goodrich Bisel. Mrs. Bisel will talk about her book “The Civil War in Kansas: Ten Years of Turmoil.” No other state’s history is so entwined with the American Civil War as that of the Sunflower State. From the hopes and dreams of settlers and the exploits of John Brown to the sacking of Lawrence and the Pottawatomie Massacre, historian Deb Goodrich Bisel tells that tumultuous story. Copies of her book will be available for sale. The program is open to the public. There is no charge to attend the program or meeting. Following the meeting will be a short break. Cookies, coffee, and tea will be provided. After the break, a meeting of the Society of Friends of Historic Fort Hays will be held. This will allow the members of the Friends to hear first-hand the progress that has been made in developing the site as well as what future plans will bring. Site staff and the Friends board members will be in attendance to answer any questions or hear comments from the membership. Fort Hays State Historic Site is located four miles south of I-70 exit 157 at Hays. The site is one of sixteen administered by the Kansas Historical Society.
