Midwest Energy is warning customers of a scam where a person calls or shows up in person claiming to be from the electric company. This person then says the customer’s bill is past due and they have to make immediate payment or service will be cut off.

A Hays business owner received such a call last weekend, but then called Midwest Energy and verified that their account was current.

Any customers who receive similar calls or visits should contact Midwest Energy before making any payments.

Similar scams have been reported by other western Kansas electric companies in Ulysses and Dodge City.
