KHAZ Country Music News: tley Gilbert and Chris Young Play Themselves on ABC’s “Nashville” Tonight

CHRIS YOUNG, BRANTLEY GILBERT, CONNIE BRITTONA pair of real-life country stars are invading the fictional world of ABC’s Nashville Wednesday night.  Brantley Gilbert and Chris Young guest star as themselves in a party scene on the show alongside Hayden Panettiere‘s character, country star Juliette Barnes.

Before taking on the acting role, Brantley consulted with his personal acting coach – – fiancé Jana Kramer. She starred in TV’s One Tree Hill before launching her country career, and Brantley says with a laugh, “She definitely had some pointers but, you know, the part was playing myself so it wasn’t all that hard.”

Brantley didn’t take his part on the show lightly though, and he came in well-prepared.

“You’ve got to get it right the first time around,” Brantley says. “They gotta reset every time you screw up, so thankfully I didn’t screw up.”

Like any video or TV shoot, Brantley and Chris had a lot of downtime on the Nashville set, but the guys took the opportunity to really bond over their music.

Says Brantley, “We had plenty of time to talk and get to know each other and even talked about getting together on a song sometime in the near future.”

The episode of Nashville featuring Brantley and Chris airs Wednesday night at 10 Eastern time on ABC.

KHAZ Country Music News: Kacey Musgraves Gets Literal with Debut Album, “Same Trailer Different Park,” Due Out March 19

khaz Kacey Musgraves20130123Country newcomer Kacey Musgraves is climbing the charts with her straightforward debut single, “Merry Go Round,” and now she’s set to release her full-length album, Same Trailer Different Park, on March 19.  Kacey wrote or co-wrote every song on the project in the same, direct style of “Merry Go Round.”

“That’s my favorite kind of music…simple and sparse,” Kacey tells ABC News Radio.  “I, over the years have learned how to hone in on saying things more simply because, I mean, you just don’t need to get all poetic and complicated and put things over people’s heads.”

While Kacey likes to be as literal as possible in her lyrics, that style of writing isn’t as easy to pull off as it may seem.

She says, “It did take a little while to learn how to do that.  That’s the hardest thing to write.  It’s weird.  You know, it sounds like the most simple thing, but that’s the hardest thing to write.”

Kacey will perform songs from Same Trailer Different Park on the road with Little Big Town and Kenny Chesney in the coming months.  Check out KaceyMusgraves.com to see where she’s performing next.

UPDATE: Apparent Murder-Suicide in Barton County Tuesday Night

susank-incident-2By Neil Ochs ~ Great Bend Post

Two people are dead after a homicide-sucide that happened at 8:30 Tuesday Night at the 1600 block of NE 20 Avenue, located north of Hoisington.

According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Officers were called to the rural location by a juvenile resident who was hiding in a closet, and stated shots had been fired during a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival at the single farm residence, officers discovered the bodies of two persons, while the juvenile was unharmed.

Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir says that the deceased were identified as 35-year-old Justin Heggemeier and 39-year-old Michelle Heggemeier, who were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Barton County Coroner’s Office. Both individuals lived at the rural location, and preliminary investigation indicates that the female was shot at close range, and the male died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Hoisington EMS assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene, and the incident is still under investigation.

Airplane 001WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – The Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita is planning to open an interactive learning center that features flight simulators, a weather station and educational stations.

The new center is expected to open March 16. It is sponsored by Boeing with support from the Lattner Family Foundation and the city of Wichita.

Features will include a mock control tower with a radio connection to a Cessna 210 simulator. Visitors can use a computer-aided system to design an air foil and test it in a virtual wind tunnel. They can also build the foil and test it in a real wind tunnel.

Over the next year, the museum plans to start a new club for children, a merit badge program, home school programs and other activities.

Nebraska Governor Supports Pipeline Route

Oil Pipeline 002LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman has approved a new route for the Keystone XL oil pipeline that avoids the state’s environmentally sensitive Sandhills region.

Heineman sent a letter Tuesday to President Barack Obama confirming that he would allow the controversial project to proceed in his state.

The pipeline has faced strong resistance in Nebraska from a coalition of landowners and environmental groups who say it would contaminate the Ogallala aquifer.

Canadian pipeline developer TransCanada and some workers’ unions say the project is safe and will create thousands of jobs.

The original route would have run the pipeline through a region of erodible, grass-covered sand dunes. The new route skirts that area.

KHAZ Country Music News: Gary Allan Is Living Out the Title of His Latest Album, “Set You Free,” Now on Sale

khaz gary allan 20130123Gary Allan‘s first album in nearly three years, Set You Free, is now available in stores and online.  Part of the holdup on the new music came from some internal politics at his record label.  Now that a new president is in charge, Garry feels like he’s living out the title of his new album.

He tells ABC News Radio, “I feel like we’ve just been shackled for a while, and it’s great to be set free.”

The songs on Set You Free are also sequenced to tell the story of a person being set free from pain at the end of a relationship, staring with the first track “Tough Goodbye.”

“It goes through all of the anger and the spin-outs and all the things you would go through during the healing process, and then it wraps up with ‘Good as New,'” Gary explains.  “So, it’s like the whole process of a breakup to recovery.”

The album’s lead single, “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain),” picks up on that hopeful message, and Gary had his kids involved when he was writing it.

He says, “I kept picturing my kids, like, you want every word that you say to be positive because it insinuates something down.  So, you wanted every word in it to be forward.”

Look for Gary to perform on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno Wednesday night.  He’s set to sing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on February 11 too.

Hays Wastewater Employee Certified by KDHE

wastewaterCity of Hays Wastewater Treatment Facility employee Clayton Unruh is one of 52 wastewater treatment operators recently certified by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).

The KDHE Bureau of Water certifies individuals at the following facility classifications: Kansas Small System Water Operation, Kansas Class I Water Operation, Kansas Class II Water Operation, Kansas Class III & IV Water Operation, Kansas Small System Wastewater Operation, or Kansas Class I – IV Wastewater Operation.

Kansas has more than 1,000 KDHE-permitted public water supply systems and 962 wastewater treatment facilities requiring a certified operator. Wastewater treatment plant operators are trained in a manner that prevents the release of excessive pollutants.

Depending on their level of certification, these operators must attend between five and 10 hours of continued education courses every two years to maintain their certification.

Downtown Hays Renovations Recognized by National Trust for Historic Preservation

comeauThe downtown renovations of Hays and Plainville, gain national attention for the efforts of Plainville native, Chuck Comeau, in the Winter 2013 issue of “Preservation”, the official publication of The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a privately funded, nonprofit organization located in Washington D.C.

Preservation writer, Gwendolyn Purdom, visited the towns in August.  Eight pages are dedicated to the story entitled “There’s No Place Like Home”. It relays entrepreneur, Chuck Comeau’s personal ties and passion for both Hays and Plainville. According to Purdom, historic renovation wasn’t originally part of the plan. Comeau was simply looking for space to relocate the business and customer service side of his Plainville company, Dessin Fournir.

As Dessin Fournir’s success grew to eventually include seven lines and five more buildings, Comeau began thinking this same approach might help downtown Hays. Since opening C.S. Post & Co., a retail gift shop in downtown Hays in 1997 with his wife Shirley, Comeau and his development firm, Liberty Group, have completed 13 renovations in downtown Hays.

Comeau’s revivalist spirit can be found not only through architectural design but also within his home furnishing manufacturing processes, producing furniture, lighting and textiles using centuries-old techniques. Upon acquiring the venerable New York textile firm, Rose Cumming, in 2005, he discovered boxes and boxes of forgotten archives from one of the interior design industry’s founding grand dames, Rose Cumming. Comeau decided to record Miss Cumming’s story and led the publication of “Rose Cumming Design Inspiration” published in September by Rizzoli International and named one of the Best Books for 2012 by New York Times Magazine.

Looking forward, the article details Comeau’s plans for boutique hotels in both towns connected to the community through landscaped pedestrian-friendly walkways and commons areas. To read Purdom’s article, visit www.preservationnation.org/magazine/2013/winter/theres-no-place-like-home.html.
