KHAZ Country Music News: Lee Greenwood Marks Thirty Years of “God Bless The USA”

khaz lee greenwood 20121206(AP) – This year is a special one for Lee Greenwood. He’s marking the 30th anniversary of “God Bless The U.S.A.” Greenwood wrote the song in 1983 in response to Russian authorities mistaking a Korean jet on its way from New York to Seoul for a spy plane and shooting it down with 269 passengers on board. Since then, it’s become an anthem during the Gulf War, after 9/11, during the Iraq War and after Hurricane Katrina. Greenwood says the song came so easily, it nearly wrote itself.

KHAZ Country Music News: Zac Brown Band OK with Being Known as “Chicken Fried” Guys

khaz zac brown band 20120626When a band’s debut hit is as recognizable and catchy as Zac Brown Band‘s “Chicken Fried,” it’s easy for the band members to think they’ll be defined by that song for the rest of their career.  Zac Brown Band drummer Chris Fryar admits they came to terms with being known as the “Chicken Fried” guys early on.

He tells Metropulse.com, “As the shows grew in size and the audiences got bigger and we put out You Get What You Give, and ‘Colder Weather’ seems to get just as many cheers as anything else on the set list.”

For those who aren’t as familiar with Zac Brown Band, “Chicken Fried” is still the group’s defining song though.

“If that’s what we’re known for to the uneducated, that’s fine,” says Chris. “Most people look at Jimmy Buffett and think, oh, it’s the ‘Margaritaville’ guy, and there’s a whole lot more to Jimmy Buffett than that.  There’s always going to be one song that people associate somebody with.”

Zac Brown Band will be performing “Chicken Fried” along with their many other #1 hits Friday night in Roanoke, VA.
