“I’ve never seen so much legislation. There are so many bills, far more than usual.” That statement to Hays Post from a staffer in 40th congressional district State Senator Ralph Ostmeyer’s office this week. Most of the overload of bills being blamed on the freshmen legislators trying to make their mark. It is very busy at the State Capitol this time of year and although his staff is “swamped” Ostmeyer, in his 9th legislative session is taking it all in stride. The Grinnell resident is Chair of the Natural Resources Committee and has dozens of other responsibilities from the Committee on Federal and State Affairs to a Special Committee on Rural Broadband. During the first 3 weeks of this session, Ostmeyer has sponsored several bills including SB 149 –Enacting the Kansas firearms freedom act.
Ostmeyer will be in Hays for Saturday’s “Eggs and Issues Legislative Forum” presented by the Hays Area Chamber of Commerce, 8:30a.m. in the Fort Hays State University Robbins Center.
Also on Saturday, Ostmeyer along with 111th State Representative Sue Boldra, Hays; and 110th District Representative Travis Couture-Lovelady, Palco will host town hall meetings at 11 a.m. in Victoria at the Former St. John’s Rest Home on 7th street and at 2 p.m. in Ellis in the city council chamber room
