During a recent trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico, Lou and Harriet Caplan participated in StoryCorps, an independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide Americans with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives.
The Hays couple’s story of “late in life love” was selected to air Friday morning on National Public Radio and will be archived in the Library of Congress.
They were married in 1995; Lou was 56 years old and Harriet was 48.
Lou taught physics at Fort Hays State and acted as Chair of the Physics Department, Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Assistant Dean for Interdisciplinary Studies.
Harriet joined the faculty at FHSU after marrying Lou, first as Affirmative Action Officer, and then taught law for the College of Business.
Both Caplans retired from Fort Hays State University in the summer of 2011.
