City work crews have done an outstanding job keeping essential roads open in the midst of the biggest snowfall in many years. Hays Public Works Director ID Creech told Hays Post that his team has also received some assistance to get the work done. ” We pushed all day (Thursday) trying to stay even on the major traffic routes and got some help from the Parks and Utility Departments with equipment and manpower and cleaned out several of the intersections.”
Now Creech and city staff can possibly see some light at the end of this snowstorm tunnel.
“We have had a crew working through the night further clearing the major snow routes and also working on the secondary routes. Some salt/sand applications and
brine will be applied with the anticipation of sunshine today to activate and begin the melt.” Then they have the big task of moving the snow away from downtown, said Creech.
“Our plan is to clean the downtown area Friday night into Saturday morning hauling the snow out of the area to a deposit location off South Main.”
If you see city work crews, away from their busy task, be sure to thank them. They have had quite a week.
