KHAZ Country Music News: The Band Perry Loves Playing Venues Both Small and Large

khaz band perry 20120301The Band Perry continues their opening spot on Rascal Flatts‘ Changed tour through next month, and then they’ll embark on a string of headlining and festival dates in the summer.  Touring with the Flatts gives them the opportunity to play for arenas full of fans, but their headlining shows allow the Perry siblings to really connect with the audience in a bigger way.

Reid Perry says, “When we play our own shows, we do have about 15 minutes where it’s just the three of us up on stage playing acoustically.”

Playing smaller venues also allows The Band Perry to have more interaction with the audience, but there is something to be said for playing big rooms with the Flatts too.

Neil Perry says of playing those arenas, “You can have all the frills of the lights and the fog and stuff like that.”

No matter what size their audience, the Perrys always try to get back to their musical roots at every show. While they draw on their love of Queen and Michael Jackson on stage, the sibling trio’s concerts are firmly rooted in their love of country music, which they got from their mother.

“Loretta Lynn is like her hero,” says lead singer Kimberly Perry.  “So, I think we try to mix in all of those elements to our live show.”

Look for The Band Perry to bring their live act to television as they promote their new, sophomore album, Pioneer, due out April 2.  The project features their latest hit, “Better Dig Two.”

Pioneer Track Listing:
“Better Dig Two”
“Done”
“Don’t Let Me Be Lonely”
“Pioneer”
“Forever Mine Nevermind”
“Night Gone Wasted”
“I Saw a Light”
“Mother Like Mine”
“Chainsaw”
“I’m a Keeper”
“Back to Me Without You”
“End of Time”

Here Comes the Water; Maybe?

Hays water wells are thirsty. The Kansas Water Office is going to try giving
KS water logo 2 them a drink. They begin releasing water today from Cedar Bluff Reservoir.

The release will use virtually all of the 1,247 acre-feet of water left in an artificial recharge pool, or approximately 406 million gallons. Will it accomplish anything?  It will have an impact on the lake. KWO says the release will drop the lake .4 ft or that is 4.8 inches.

The city of Russell owns water in Cedar Bluff but is not joining in this latest request for water.

Economic Impact: After 60 plus Years, Oldham Sales Takes Action

Rick Bolling told Hays Post, “I think it was the second half of 1949, when Oldham Sales moved into the location at 10th and Allen”

It is not there now. In January, the longtime auto parts, paint, and supply business moved into a new location, 815 East 11th street. Bollig, whose father was among the original owners of Oldham, is extremely happy with the transition.

“It’s like going from one side of the bridge to the other he said. “From gloom and doom to beautiful.” Bollig said they were simply doing what the economy required. “We made the necessary changes. We were able to keep as many of the employees who wanted to stay, and we took care of others.” Oldham will focus the majority of their business on paint and supplies and still carry things like Traeger products. “In the past, 15% of the inventory was 85% of our sales. Now 85% of our inventory will be 100% of our sales,” said Bollig. A new name may also be in the future. That may be part of news when they have an open house in late spring.Oldham OldNew Oldham

Union Pacific Ready for Blizzard, Has Reminder for Motorists

The trains keep running in Hays and across Kansas.  Union Pacific watches the weather along with everyone else.  Raquel Espinosa, with the railroad told Hays Post that the biggest challenge is usually “attempting to anticipate when are where their crews and snow removal equipment is going to be needed.”  The blizzard conditions are the biggest challenge this time.  “We obviously want to keep the trains running but who knows where the biggest drifts will be? We are ready. There may be slight delays. The weather will not keep the trains delayed long.”

On their Facebook Page, U.P reminds motorists, “During the extreme winter weather conditions that are forecast for most of the Midwest, Union Pacific reminds you to use extreme caution when driving across grade crossings. With reduced visibility because of the blowing and drifting snow, it could be difficult for motorists to see where crossing surfaces are located. When possible, use over or under passes to get to the other side of railroad tracks.

Union Pacific logoSafety tip: If you are driving too fast for the slick conditions you will not be able to stop in time to avoid running into the path of or into the side of a moving train at a crossing. It can take a mile or more to stop a train, and, by the time a locomotive engineer sees you on the track, it is too late to stop.”
