Impact of Federal Budget Cuts Coming to Kansas

CMoney 001ongress returns to work this week with no plan to reverse across-the-board spending cuts that took effect Friday, but with hope on both sides of the aisle of averting an end-of-the-month showdown that could result in a government shutdown. However, budget cuts are headed this way.

According to the  White House website, primary and secondary education will see millions of dollars in cuts in Kansas. Additionally, Head Start programs, Work-Study Jobs, and education for disabled children would feel the effects.

The American Federation of Government Employees reports,  if an agreement in Washington isn’t made military personnel in Kansas could also feel a dramatic impact on their jobs.

The cuts will not start for at least 30 days from March 1st because of federal regulations.

The House plans to vote Thursday on a spending measure that would keep the government running after its current funding mechanism elapses March 27.
