Kansas Offender Registration Act Changes Considered

The Kansas Offender Registration Act reporting requirement for drug crimes is being debated in the State legislature this session.State capitol building

If approved, it would waive the reporting requirement for drug crimes committed before July 1 2007

The registry includes sex, violent and drug offenders, and each includes a public and private list. Currently, drug offenders who were convicted before July 1, 2007, are on the nonpublic list.

Offenders have to register for either 15 years, 25 years or lifetime.

Legislators return to work on Wednesday.
