Rep. Sue Boldra on Wednesday carried an education bill on the House Floor.
A member of the House Education Committee, Rep. Boldra carried House Bill 2319 during Thursday’s General Orders. To “carry” a bill means the legislator from the committee of origination explains the bill to the entire body, then stands for questions from members.
“Representative Boldra did a fantastic job carrying the bill today,” said House Speaker Ray Merrick (R-Stilwell). “The debate was lengthy, but Rep. Boldra answered questions and did a great job representing and explaining the bill.”
House Bill creates the Innovative Districts Act, which would allow 10 school districts in Kansas to form plans to create special curriculum and education systems outside of current laws and regulation. The bill would give the districts a lot of flexibility to operate new programs.
The House gave initial approval to the bill Thursday on a voice vote. Representative Boldra is currently serving her first term in the Kansas House of Representatives. She is a longtime educator and professor.
