Obituary for Jeanette Oliphant
Jeanette Aileen (Larson) Oliphant, 96, Leawood, KS died Sunday March 24, 2013 in Leawood, KS.
She was born November 28, 1916 in Claflin, KS to Walter L. and Emma (Schreiner) Larson.
She was a lifelong Claflin resident and a 1934 graduate of Claflin High School.
She married Charles E. Oliphant on March 9, 1950 in Salina, KS. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1973.
Jeanette worked as a cashier for the Kansas Power Company in Great Bend, a bookkeeper and payroll clerk for the Claflin Flour Mills and attended air traffic controller school during WW II.
She was a secretary in the Education Department at Barton County Community College from 1975-1986 and touched many lives teaching piano lessons for 46 years in Claflin.
She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Walker (Don Rosemann), Shawnee KS. and Debbie Ermoian (Kyle) Hays, KS. Two granddaughters, Jessica Baum McGee (Matt) Marietta, GA. and Lindsey Walker Rosemann (Scott) Prairie Village KS. Five grandsons, Jacob Baum, Portland, OR. Lucas Walker, Lawrence, KS. Joshua Baum Tacoma, WA. Devin Ermoian, Hays, KS, Taylor Ermoian, Hesston, KS. Two great granddaughters and four great grandsons.
She was a longtime member of the Claflin United Methodist Church, Celebration Community Church in Hays, KS and attended Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Claflin, and a past member of the Barton County Piano Teachers League.
She loved music and playing the piano. She was an avid reader of Christian literature. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and serving and celebrating others, especially her grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1pm Wednesday March 27th at Claflin United Methodist Church with visitation between 12-1pm. Burial at the Claflin Cemetery following. Reverend Claudia Ricks Hubbard and Pastor Kyle Ermoian officiating.
