National Debate Championship Win

For the second time since 2006, the Kansas Wesleyan Debate Team has been crowned national champion. Last weekend the team, coached by Gary Harmon, traveled to John Brown University where they competed in the National Christian College National Tournament at the varsity and junior varsity level. They edged Biola University, Point Loma Nazarene, Liberty University, and Wheaton College to take the top spot.

The smallest school in the competition, Kansas Wesleyan used just nine team members to win.

The National Christian Forensic National Tournament is a comprehensive tournament with competition in Individual Events as well as debate.  Kansas Wesleyan competed in both areas.  Special awards were given for participation in both individual events and debate.  These awards were given on the basis of the total points earned by the individual or school.  In individual sweepstakes for the novice division, Benning was the national runner-up.   As a school, Kansas Wesleyan University placed third in the overall team sweepstakes.  Also contributing points to this award were Tonya Powers and Nick Fowler.
