This week, the American Cancer Society regrettably announced that they will no longer fund youth camps for children with cancer, including Camp Hope, which takes place at Barton Community College’s Camp Aldrich. Dana Kemp Regional Director for ACS’ High Plains Division told the Post, “ACS is talking to potential sponsors and we are hopeful that someone will take over and continue running the camp that costs around $150,000 for operation.”
Kemp says that this move has been thought about for a long time, and is simply being done as the American Cancer Society refocuses their efforts to safe more lives faster. ACS is preparing to celebrate their 100th Anniversary in May, and says that the goal is to make this coming century cancer’s last.
