Areas of western Kansas were hit with large hail early Saturday morning as strong thunderstorms rolled out of Colorado and across the state. Trained weather spotters reported 2-½ inch hail in the Ness City area. Pea size hail was reported in parts of Ellis County. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Ellis County just after 12:30 a.m. It expired at 1:15 a.m.
The K-State Ag research Center south of Hays reported .01 of an inch of rain overnight. They also report .71 of inch of moisture for the month of March, 2.66 inches for the year.
