It may have been lightning from a thunderstorm that rolled through Ellis County. However, Midwest Energy says they are not exactly sure what caused the early Sunday morning transmission pole fire.

Midwest Energy spokesman Mike Morley told Hays Post, “The pole fire near Sternberg at 3:17 a.m. cut electricity to less than 500 homes. Work crews opened a breaker at a substation to repair the problem and had power restored before 6 a.m. Later this week they will replace the pole and won’t have to turn off power to make the change.
