The Hays High softball team used a couple of big first innings to carry them to a doubleheader sweep over Dodge City in their home opener Thursday at Glassman Park. The Indians scored five in the first and won game one by run-rule 11-1. They strike for six in the first in game two and win it 14-5 to improve to 3-3 on the season.
Game 1: Hays 11, Dodge City 1 (5 inn.)
Madison Prough allowed just one run on four hits for the win. Haley Wells drove in three runs and Kaylie Schoendaller hit a two-run homer in the fifth to end the game.
Game 2: Hays 14, Dodge City 5
Katelyn Schumacher and Tessa Stickel both had three RBI’s. Jenna Luebbers pitched the final four innings or relief to pick up the win, allowing one earned run on four hits.
