Fort Hays State’s Makayla McPhail has been named the MIAA Field Athlete of the Week. McPhail improved upon her automatic national qualifying mark in the javelin at the Ollie Isom Invitational in El Dorado, Kan. She won the event with a throw of 154′ 7″. She threw 10 feet longer than the closest competitor and topped a field of 10 athletes.
She currently ranks third on the national performance list and has the top mark of any MIAA athlete in this event.The junior javelin thrower is a native of Liberal, Kan. where she competed at Liberal High School.
