Kansas Governor Sam Brownback issued an executive order Friday to grant temporary relief from motor carrier rules and regulations for those helping with state and local storm clean-up in Oklahoma hit by tornados on May 18th.

“As fellow Midwesterners, we understand from experience the severe impact spring storms and tornados can have on supplies of food and fuel and to electrical, water, sewer and other utilities essential to the health and safety of our citizens,” Gov. Brownback said. “It is in the spirit of mutual cooperation that I make this declaration to support the our neighbors to the south in Oklahoma.”

Executive Order 13-02 applies only to those motor carriers and person operating commercial motor carriers providing direct assistance to supplement state and local efforts in Oklahoma. In accordance with Title 49 C.F.R. § 390.23:

· Temporarily suspends the requirements contained in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Title 49 C.F.R. Parts 390-399;

· Temporarily suspends registration and fuel tax permits required by the Kansas Department of Revenue;

· Temporarily suspends the licensing, certification and permitting rules and regulations required by the Kansas Corporation Commission;

· Temporarily waives permit fees for over dimension and overweight loads as required by the Kansas Department of Transportation

Drivers must still obtain permits required for over dimension and overweight loads

Drivers are not permitted to travel during the period beginning 30 minutes after sunset and ending 30 minutes before sunrise nor during inclement weather conditions.

EO 13-2 is in effect until June 5, 2013.
