Ellis County RFL Committee Member Mary Befort, Victoria, sorts donation checks and cash during “bank night.”

Committee members think this is the 18th year Ellis County has participated in the Relay for Life, a nationwide fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

They know this is the 100th year of the American Cancer Society and every Relay across the country will celebrate that milestone.

The Ellis County RFL is Friday, June 7, at the Hays Middle School track.  The event begins at 6p.m. and ends at midnight.

Tonight was “bank night,” when team captains turned in the money they’ve raised so far–much of it for luminaries to be personalized in honor or memory of someone with cancer.  Their names will be read individually during a ceremony beginning at 10p.m.

This year’s theme is “Dream Big. Hope Big. Relay Big…to Celebrate More Birthdays.”  Co-captains are Lonny and Becky Claycamp of Hays.
