“Police kept asking me if anyone was mad at me or if an old girlfriend was upset with me,” Matt Dietz told Hays Post.

Dietz was out of town last Friday morning when someone set his Ford F 150 truck on fire. “I guess they just stuck a rag in the gas tank and lit it on fire. The truck was totaled. Everything in the cab was destroyed. I had a lot of personal stuff in there, I basically lived in that vehicle, since I drive out of town to work.”

An investigation by the Hays Police Department, the Hays Fire Department, and the Kansas State Fire Marshall’s Office determined the cause of the fire to be arson. As a result of that investigation, 21year old Andrew Burgwald of Hays was arrested for the charges of Arson, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

“I just thought it was some drunk that wandered down the street.  I don’t know the guy they arrested.” Dietz said.

“The Hays Police Department told us they are going to give all of their information to the District Attorney sometime this week,” Dietz said, so it’s moving at a fast pace.” Dietz is watching the calendar because he reports to Fort Benning, Georgia in a few weeks to begin a tour with the United States Army.
