The Hays Larks used a good start from Nick Goza and three big innings to break open a tight game and defeat the El Dorado Broncos 12-2 for the three-game Jayhawk League series sweep last night at Larks Park. Goza picks up his first win of the season, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking two.
The Larks had a 1-0 lead before scoring five in the fifth. They then added three in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
Taylor Peterson’s two-out single to right pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning. Zair Koieman drove in two with a double to the wall in right. Cody Daily followed with a double to left.
Mackenzie Handel, Zair Koeiman, Elvin Rodriguez and Ty Gilmore all had two hits. Koeiman and Peterson both drove in three.
It’s the Larks fifth straight win which improves them to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the Jayhawk League. The Broncos drop their third straight and fall to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in league play. Hays is off until Wednesday when they travel to Dodge City. The A’s make the return trip to Larks Park on Thursday for a 7pm contest.
