Overnight Storm: High Winds and Hail

Thunderstorms moved across Kansas late Sunday night and left damage in some areas. High winds and hail did most of the minor damage. Wind gusts of 60 to 70 severe-weathermiles an hour were reported in Russell County also in Southwest Kansas near Deerfield and more high winds were reported early Monday morning near Hutchinson and Kingman.

High Wind gusts reported in Kismet (73 mph) Russell (72 mph), Garden City ( 71mph), Dodge City (69 mph), North of Atwood (68 mph) Smith Center (66 mph) and Hutchinson (61 mph)

There were numerous reports of hail including golf ball size hail north east of Winfield. Areas of Ellis County received small hail and high winds and much needed rain. Over 2 inches of rain was reported near Yocemento and the KAYS studio received 2.22 inches of rain. 1.25 inches was reported in the city of Ellis.

Six miles west of  Hays reported  2.15 inches of rain,  FHSU University Farm 2.30,  Prairie Acres 1.82, Two and a  half miles west of Schoenchen .95,  Four miles north of LaCrosse .40, and Ransom .50

The official rainfall total from the K-State Ag Research Center over the past 24 hours was 1.74 inches. That makes 2.37 for the month of June and 8.31 inches in 2013.
