Nick Goza allowed two runs on six hits over six innings leading the Hays Larks to a 6-3 win over Liberal Sunday night and a sweep of the two-game series at Larks Park. The Larks improve to 25-9 overall and 18-9 in the Jayhawk League where they lead El Dorado by two games. The Bee Jays drop their third straight and are now 18-16 overall and 12-16 in league play.
Goza moved to 5-0, walking one over his six innigns of work. DJ Carr, Ian Bentley and David Owen combine to allow one run over the final three innings of relief. Owen pitched a perfect ningth for his fourth save.
|The Larks struck in the first, scoring on a Cody Daily single. A bases-loaded walk to Mackenzie Handel in the third made it 2-0. The Larks tacked on three in the fourth, two of them on Aaron Cornell’s two-run single to right.
After the Bee Jays scored two in the sixth, Taylor Peterson hit a solo homer in the seventh. Liberal would score on a groundout in the eighth for the final margin.
The Larks are on the road Monday for a league game at Dodge City. They return home Thursday to play Junction City then play their final home weekend series against Derby.
