The Hays Monarchs American Legion dropped a couple of heartbreakers to Dodge City Monday night. Dodge City scored on a two-out base hit in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener 2-1. They then rally for two with one out in the bottom of the seventh to take the second game 7-6. The Monarchs are now 13-11 on the year. They host Great Bend tomorrow.

Game 1: Dodge City 2, Hays 1
Both teams scored a run in the third. The Monarchs getting their’s on a Jordan Gottschalk single.

Dodge City scored the go-head run on a two-out single off off Pierce Schippers who takes the loss, allowing two runs on eight hits, walking one and striking none.

Game 2: Dodge City 7, Hays 6
The Monarchs rallied from a 5-1 deficit, scoring two in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. Dodge City would answer with two in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Shane Zimmerman went the distance allowing seven runs, three earned, on six hits, striking out three and walking five.

Cameron Brin, Jordan Gottschalk and Ryan Schippers all had two hits. Kameron Schmidt drove in two.
