On Thursday evening, the City of Hays Fire Department, Police Department and Ellis County EMS were dispatched to a building fire at 1402 Oak Street.
On arrival,

firefighters found a fire burning in the wall in the vicinity of the main electrical service. The fire was quickly brought under control with one hose crew at work. Back-up firefighters checked the house for fire spread and removed the smoke. The house sustained minor damage. The most probable cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction in the building electrical service equipment.
