Saturday of this week, the City of Hays Fire Department will be continuing the hands-on-training that was postponed due to the train derailment and fire last

Tuesday. This training is for the rescue of unconscious persons from burning buildings. Firefighters will be using the house slated for demolition at 415 West 4th Street from 9 AM until noon each day. Firefighters will work on the teamwork needed to rescue an unconscious adult from a basement, first floor or second floor of a burning building using both stairs and ladders, doors and windows.
To simulate the work of rescuing an unconscious person, the firefighters will be using a special 150-pound rescue mannequin. This training does not involve actual burning of the structure.
