The Hays Larks score five in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead then held on the rest of the way and beat Dodge City 8-4. their win coupled with Wellington’s doubleheader split with El Dorado gives the Larks the league title. The Larks (30-11, 22-10 Jayhawk League) host the A’s (15-28, 8-25) Thursday night at Larks Park in their regular season finale. They will advance to the Championship Week of the NBC World Series playing either on August 2nd or 3rd.
Aaron Cornell and Clayton Garland continue to swing a hot bat. Both went 2-for-5 with Garland driving in four and Cornell two. Garland’s bases-loaded double which cleared the bases was the big blow in the fifth inning.
Ian Bentley gave up a run on two hits over an inning and a third of relief for the win. Starter Jason Zgardowski allowed three runs on two hits while walking six and striking out five.
