A Hays woman leads a national march Thursday in Washington, D-C.
Lou Ann Kibbee manages the SKIL Independent Living office in Hays. She is also the Board Vice President of the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL). Kibbee is attending the annual NCIL Conference this week.
Attendees marched to the U-S Capitol, then held a rally on the lawn by the reflecting pool with speakers including members of Congress and disability rights advocates.
Kibbee and other Kansas participants met with Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran.
“Our priority message is to support bipartisan passage of the WIA bill, ” says Kibbee. As originally introduced, the Workforce Investment Act, consolidates 35 existing federal workforce programs.
Kibbee plans to run for President of the National County on Independent Living board.
