Two people escaped serious injury Wednesday after they were involved in a crash at the Ellinwood airport, 10 miles east of Great Bend.  According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the pair were injured when the plane they were in crashed just after takeoff.

58 year old Michael Yagel of Raymond, was attempting to take off in a 1946 Lulscombe 8A Fixed Wing Single Engine plane shortly before 2 p.m. when the plane did not gain enough altitude. Yagel tried to abort, lost directional control and flipped off of the runway into a milo field.

Yagel and his passenger passenger, 66 year old  Leonard Maberry of Ellinwood, were not taken to the hospital.
