USD 489 has called a special meeting for Tuesday. The meeting is scheduled at the same time the district and KNEA negotiators were to meet. The two sides will

meet to discuss insurance.

School District Assistant to the Superintendent and Coordinator of Public Information Elizabeth Jaeger told Hays Post, “One of the Union negotiating representatives, Kim Schneweis, was contacted and agreed to the change to a special meeting.  If different insurance plans are available, a change has to be negotiated before October 1st, so the state can be notified of that change. Otherwise the district is automatically enrolled in the current plan.

The negotiating parties knew this year was the end of the contract for the current insurance plan;  a district committee has been studying all options with a consultant. There are now results ready to present and it is a time sensitive issue, thus the change to a special meeting.”   The meeting is scheduled at 4:30 in the Toepfer board room.
