August 17. Demofest is the KDP’s annual Wichita organizing event hosting a state committee meeting, trainings, caucus meetings, and a banquet.

“Kansas Democrats are thrilled to welcome home native Kansan Juan Sepúlveda as our Demofest 2013 keynote speaker,” said Jason Perkey, Kansas Democratic Party Executive Director. “Kansans realize that the policies and priorities of Sam Brownback are threatening our communities and schools. Juan will share his experience of successfully growing the Democratic Party by spreading our beliefs in better schools, stronger communities, and a vibrant economy. With Juan’s help, Kansas Democrats can restore sound leadership to Kansas and help get our state back on track.”

Juan Sepúlveda is the Senior Advisor for Hispanic Affairs at the Democratic National Committee (DNC), having been named to this new position in November 2011. He Led the DNC portion of the Latino Obama 2012 team that helped re-elect President Obama with a record-level of Hispanic support (75%).

Juan was born and raised in Oakland, a working-class Mexican-American neighborhood in Topeka, KS. It was in Topeka that Sepúlveda started his career in politics when at the age of 16 he became the first high school student hired to work for the Kansas Secretary of State.

He is married to Teresa Niño and together they have two children, Michael and Victoria. Juan and Teresa currently live in Washington, D.C., but San Antonio, Texas, remains home for them.
