After a scheduled court appearance this week, two parents remain in the Ellis County Jail and their children are in protective custody.

Hays Police Lt. Ron Rounkles told Hays Post, “Mathew Joseph Rowlison and Dawn Ashley Rowlison were arrested following a welfare check on their children by officers at a residence in the 1000 Block of East 8th Street.

The couple was arrested on charges of aggravated endangering a child; Reckless situation to child under the age of 18, Contributing to the deprivation of a child, Felony obstruction, Possession of marijuana, and Possession of drug paraphernalia.

The living conditions at the time were such that officers removed two children from the home and placed them in protective custody,”
