Commission Reviews Lease with NCK Tech

NCK Feature imageAt Thursday night’s City Commission meeting the arrangement the city has with North Central Kansas Technical College to lease the former Army Reserve Facility was discussed.

In lieu of the Technical College paying to lease the facility the College has helped the city with various projects around the city.

Some of those projects have included remodeling the Parks Department, replacing shelter house roofs in West Frontier Park and completing a range house at the Police Department Shooting Range.

The Commission has not been satisfied with the communication from the college and they have also had issues with the quality of some projects.

The President of NCK Tech was at the meeting and Commissioner Henry Schwaller expressed his concern about the lack of communication.

“This is the first communication that we have from you since 2009, and we’ve asked that projects be given to you or at least asked if they can be done. Emails don’t get answered and phone calls don’t get answered and we know that you’re very busy but this is a free building.”

Burks agreed the communication needs to get better but said he has answered all the city’s communications he has received.

“I’ve just been the president since last year, and that’s not a copout on my part. I’m responsible and will make it right. If we’re gonna talk about what happened in 2009 I can only be held accountable for what I’ve been able to do since I’ve become president.”

The lease agreement expires next year.
