Dozens of pigs were killed in a truck accident in western Kansas on Tuesday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2007 Freightliner semi truck and trailer driven by Rafael Rodriguez-Mata, age 45 of Ulysses, was southbound on K 51, 7 miles south of Rolla in Morton County.
The truck left the roadway and entered the east ditch turning over on to the passenger side. The trailer was carrying 560 head of feeder pigs. 176 pigs were killed in the accident and the remainder were transferred to another trailer by Seaboard Farms and taken away.
Rodriguez-Mata age 45 of Ulysses was transported to the Morton County hospital. He was wearing a seat belt.
