Kansas man arrested on drug and battery of a police officer charges

A Hoisington man has been arrested on multiple charges after an incident that took place Tuesday in Barton County.  According to the Hoisington Police Department, Akins21-year old Orlin Akins was taken into custody after allegedly stabbing himself in the chest in an attempt to commit suicide.  This took place after Akins had a domestic incident with his live in girlfriend.

Hoisington Chief of Police Kenton Doze says that around 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to 410 East 3rd street. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Akins who had a self inflicted stab wound to the chest.  Akins was treated at the scene and later transported to Clara Barton Hospital.  His girlfriend was also treated for injuries.

During the initial investigation, officers observed drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the residence.  As a result, officers obtained and executed a narcotics related search warrant where the drugs and paraphernalia were seized.

Later at the hospital, Doze says that Akins tried to escape by running from officers, which resulted in the additional charges.
