Delinquent Real Estate in Ellis County; Tax Deadline Ahead

The Ellis County Treasurer’s office has compiled a list of properties that are delinquent in their real estate tax for the 2012 year.

Ellis County Treasurer Ann Pfeifer told Hays Post that property owners should have received a courtesy notice through the mail in June.

“The first delinquent real estate list was published on August 16, 2013.  If payment is received by 5 pm on August 26 the taxpayer will not be published in the final list publication on August 30, 2013.  Taxpayers have until Friday, August 30, 2013 to pay their taxes to avoid them being on the Tax Sale list.”

Karla Hecker, the Deputy Treasurer, told Hays Post that a property would be eligible for tax sale if it has delinquent taxes from 3 years or more.  The county will not be having a sale this year.  Pfeifer and her office will be reviewing properties that may be eligible for a future tax sale. The Ellis county commission has final approval before a tax sale is held.

Any property listed on the finalized tax sale list is considered delinquent for the listed tax year.  Though there won’t be a sale this year, any property on that list would still count towards the 3 tax years required for the county to post that property for sale.

Publication of this information as well as all deadlines are governed by state statutes.

Pfeifer also stated “The Ellis County Treasurer’s office can set up payment plans for delinquent and future taxes.  If taxpayers have any questions feel free to contact our the Treasurer’s office at 785-628-9465.”

Correction: Previously we had linked to the Ellis. Co. Treasurer’s website, which listed the 2011 delinquent tax list.  Below is the correct list provided to Hays Post by the Ellis County Treasurer’s office on 8/27/13.  We apologize for the misinformation.
