The Thursday afternoon Core2Campus Kickoff event in the area around Union Pacific Park at 10th & Main in Hays was hampered by the hot weather. Temperatures were near 100 degrees. Ellis
County Emergency Medical staff responded to emergency calls to assist several individuals for heat exhaustion. Because of the congestion downtown, the ambulances had a difficult time reaching those who needed help.
Several students were taken into a cool location at 10th and Main Street.
As many as four people were transported to Hays Medical Center for treatment.
The Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau and the city worked on the event to make sure that new FHSU student residents feel welcome and at home. Ellis County EMS has done their part also.
