At the Hays City Commission’s work session Thursday night, the commission discussed improvements to 13th Street from Main St. to Milner. At this time, city staff is asking for permission to solicit proposals for engineering to come back with various designs for the reconstruction.

City Manager Toby Dougherty explained at the meeting why this street was being considered.

“When we ranked the reconstruction projects, we looked at how bad of shape the street was in, the traffic on it, and the visibility.  And this ranked the highest.  There’s probably streets out there in worst shape, but they don’t have the traffic or the visibility.  There’s probably streets with more traffic that maybe aren’t as bad.  So this ranked the highest in our minds as far as bang for the buck.”

He also clarified that at this time the city is asking for proposals at this time, and will come back to the commission with contracts for recommendation at a later date.
