Late Thursday night, the Russell Police Department reported the missing teenager had been found. Their facebook page said,
“The missing juvenile from earlier today has returned home safe and unhurt. The Russell Police Department would like to thank all concerned citizens!”
We will have additional details as they become available.
1:50 pm: Russell Police Chief Dale Weimaster told Hays Post that it appears the missing teen is a runaway and was not an abduction. He says that the teen was supposed to be going to Kansas City with her mother, and went missing before they were to depart. The girl’s bags that would have accompanied her on the trip were left in the back of the home. Based on what officers have seen and heard they are treating it as a runaway case.
Chief Weimaster said that while officers can’t be 100% sure, the department believes that the teen left home because she didn’t want to go to Kansas City with her mother, and he feels that the teen is still in Russell.
At this time the family is not aware of any additional bags or clothing that are missing that could help identify the teen.
