The Fort Hays State University women’s soccer team played to a 0-0 tie on Sunday against Emporia State in Emporia, Kan.
FHSU sits at 4-6-2 (0-3-2 MIAA) on the season, while ESU is 5-4-2 (2-1-2 MIAA).
Forward Hailey Davey led the squad with four shots on the day, followed closely by Ceynada Guzman’s three. Jordan Shaw, Margaret Meier and Gabrielle Makatura added two shots a piece to contribute to the Tigers’ 17 total shots. Three of those 17 shots were on goal – two by Guzman and one by Davey.
In the net, Nicole Barnaba notched four saves in 110 minutes played, including a game-saver at 99:45.
Just before the midway point of the first half, FHSU’s offense looked poised to take the lead as the Tigers fired five shots within a minute, but a pesky Hornet defense blocked four of the attempts.
In the first overtime, FHSU would take aim on two more shot attempts, though neither found the net. Barnaba saved an ESU shot attempt with 15 seconds remaining in the period to ensure a second OT.
ESU would launch the only shot attempt in the second overtime period as the game ended in a draw.
The Tigers will come home for two conference matches next weekend, starting with Central Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. FHSU and Northeastern State will play on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
