Lack of quorum changes meeting to work session

wakeeney logoRECORD OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE GOVERNING BODY 23 SEPTEMBER 2013

                The Governing Body of the City of WaKeeney, Kansas met in a work session (due to a lack of a quorum) at City Hall 408 Russell Ave at 7:00 PM with the Mayor presiding and the following members present:

Mayor Kenneth Roy and Council Members Irene Dirks, Lynelle Shubert, and Allen Weigel

BEING ABSENT:  Mary Jo Clevenger and Troy Leiker

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written, printed and distributed.

GUESTS:  Maggie Basgall, Tony Potter, Cory Garner, Addie Zeman, Payton Nowlin, Brittany Brock, Jared Hager, Kurt Brock, Tyler Lowry, Nicole Hendrix, Crystal Day, Gary Benisch, Sonya Stanton, Sharon Uhrich, Terry Eberle, and Janelle Miller

Maggie Basgall, Community Development Specialist with NexTech / Rural Telephone was present before the City Council to discuss NexTech’s fiber to the home infrastructure and how it benefits businesses and home owners in WaKeeney.  Maggie was thanked by the Governing Body and took her leave.

Attorney Tony Potter was present before the Governing Body to review the process under the city’s current Environmental Code to abate junk nuisances within the city.  Mr. Potter recommended amending the city current ordinance to increase its effectiveness in cleaning up the properties in question.  Tony was thanked by the Governing Body and took his leave.

CHIEF OF POLICE:  Terry Eberle provided his monthly departmental report.   The Chief of Police discussed with the City Council US Postal Service mailboxes obstructing sidewalks, vehicle rental, and the draft ATV, golf cart, and utility vehicle ordinance were discussed at length.  Some changes to the ATV ordinance will be made and brought back before the City Council for a vote.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR:  City Administrator Hardy Howard presented a recap financial statement for the WaKeeney Water Park for 2013.

The City Administrator discussed the need for fall weed control spraying of city parks and grounds.

It was the consensus of the Governing Body because of conflicting schedules to move the city council meetings in October to Monday, October 7, and Monday October 21.

No further business appearing, the meeting was adjourned.
