– U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) issued the following statement regarding the death of Sergeant Patrick C. Hawkins, 25, who was among four members of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment killed on October 6, 2013, in Kandahar, Afghanistan. According to initial reports, Sergeant Hawkins died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated during a night combat operation that prevented a high-profile suicide bombing attack in Kandahar City. Sergeant Hawkins’ family (wife) resides in Lansing, Kansas, and Carlisle, Pennsylvania:
“Sergeant Hawkins bravely answered the call to serve our country, and we will forever be indebted to him for his service and sacrifice on our behalf,” Sen. Moran said. “My deepest sympathies go out to his family, and I ask all Kansans to join me in keeping his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
