Self-Defense Workshop

Self Defense 8.5x11There will be a free self-defense training workshop this Saturday at Cunningham Hall on the Fort Hays State Campus. The workshop is Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon and is sponsored by the FHSU Women’s Leadership Project, Defensive Tactics Club, Dept. of Health and Human Performance and Panhellenic Council.

Participants will learn situational awareness, common perpetrator tactics and an introduction to simple and effective physical and verbal self-defense and risk reduction techniques.

Kenton Russell is the primary trainer for the workshop and will be assisted by FHSU students who have been trained as Defensive Tactics Coaches. Russell has 30 years of experience in mixed martial arts training and has trained many high profile individuals, including Secret Service Agents, FBI Agents, SWAT Team members, and even Navy Seals.

The event is Cunningham Hall Room 110 and open to anyone over 12 years old. People should come dressed appropriately – shirts with sleeves and no jewelry. Shoes are not allowed on the mats.

Throughout October, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, FHSU is participating in The Red Flag Campaign.  This campaign addresses dating violence on college campuses.
